Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is about to initiate a transformation across the world whose scale and speed we are only beginning to understand yet society is still not fully prepared for it. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned that its impact could be profound, affecting everything from jobs and businesses to governments, education, healthcare, and even human relationships.
In his article titled “The Turbulent AI Era Is Here: The Choices We Make Now Are Critical,” Gates said that the rapid advancement of AI is creating extraordinary opportunities for humanity while also bringing several major risks. Therefore, instead of waiting for the future to arrive, it is essential to start preparing now.
Employment Could Face a Major Shock
One of Gates’ primary concerns is employment. According to him, the impact of AI will not be limited to any particular profession or industry. Across numerous sectors including sales and customer service, software engineering, law, medicine, and manufacturing AI could transform the traditional ways in which people work.
The most important factor is the speed of this transformation. In the past, major technological changes took several generations to spread throughout society. But in the case of AI, this transformation could fundamentally reshape many industries and professions within just a decade. As a result, the transition into the AI era could become one of the most turbulent periods in human history.
In particular, entry-level and mid-level jobs may be at greater risk. Although new jobs will be created, they will require new kinds of skills. Without appropriate policies and preparation, the number of new jobs created may not be sufficient to replace the jobs that disappear.
The greatest impact could fall on young people. At the beginning of a career, young professionals gain experience, develop skills, and learn directly from experienced colleagues through entry-level roles. If AI takes over a significant portion of these tasks, the first doorway into professional life for the next generation could become increasingly narrow.
AI Will Affect Not Only Office Jobs, but Physical Work as Well
Gates believes that the impact of AI will not be limited to intellectual or computer-based work. With the rapid development of smart robots, competition between humans and machines could also increase in various forms of physical work, including manufacturing, services, and hospitality.
Therefore, the question of the future is not simply, “Will AI take people’s jobs?”
The bigger question is when AI transforms the entire structure of work, how prepared will people be for that new reality?
Deepfakes, Misinformation, and Cyber Threats Could Become More Powerful
Gates’ second major concern is the misuse of AI.
Existing digital threats such as fraud, deepfakes, false and misleading information, and cyberattacks could become more effective, faster, and more dangerous because of increasingly powerful AI.
As AI becomes more powerful, there is also a growing risk that equally powerful technological tools will fall into the hands of malicious individuals or groups. The concern is not limited to individuals or criminal organizations powerful AI systems could also be used dangerously or unethically at the state level.
Therefore, in the AI era, alongside technological capability, ethical use, fact-checking, digital awareness, and effective regulatory systems will become extremely important.
The Solution Is Not to Stop AI
However, Bill Gates does not support stopping the advancement of AI. According to him, if used properly, this technology could bring enormous benefits to humanity.
AI could create positive change in countless areas, including helping doctors diagnose and treat diseases more effectively, enhancing teachers’ capabilities, expanding opportunities for people to learn, and making government services more effective and accessible.
Therefore, the question is not whether AI will exist or not.
The real question is:
How will we use AI, how will we regulate it, and how will we ensure that its benefits reach people and serve humanity?
We Need to Prepare for the Future Now
According to Gates, policymakers must begin developing specific plans now to address the worst possible scenarios.
Governments need to work in a coordinated manner across critical areas such as employment, education, healthcare, taxation, energy, and national security. At the same time, systems must be created to provide new skills, rehabilitation, and financial support to workers who may be affected by automation.
He has also raised the idea of reserving certain jobs and responsibilities for humans particularly in areas where empathy, human judgment, trust, and direct human-to-human interaction are extremely important.
At the same time, he has also brought into discussion the possibility of creating new forms of taxes or funds in the future from AI- and robot-driven economic activities to support workers affected by automation.
The Real Challenge Ahead Is Not Technology It Is Preparedness
The advancement of AI will not stop. Rather, its capabilities are likely to grow even more rapidly over the next few years.
Therefore, the biggest question of the future may not be how powerful AI will become.
The most important question will be:
How prepared are people, society, and the state for a world that is changing this rapidly?
If we begin preparing now with the right policies, new skills, ethical use, awareness, and human values at the forefrontAI could become one of the most powerful tools for human progress.
But without preparation, the same technology could create a new kind of crisis for employment, the credibility of information, security, and social stability.
The future of AI will not be determined by technology alone the decisions we make today will determine what the future of humanity will look like in the AI era.

‘The Turbulent AI Era Is Here: The Choices We Make Now Are Critical’ শীর্ষক লেখায় গেটস বলেছেন, এআইয়ের দ্রুত অগ্রগতি মানবসভ্যতার সামনে যেমন অসাধারণ সম্ভাবনা তৈরি করছে, তেমনি নিয়ে আসছে বেশ কিছু বড় ঝুঁকি। তাই ভবিষ্যতের জন্য অপেক্ষা না করে এখন থেকেই প্রস্তুতি নেওয়া জরুরি।
কর্মসংস্থানে আসতে পারে বড় ধাক্কা
গেটসের অন্যতম প্রধান উদ্বেগ কর্মসংস্থান। তাঁর মতে, এআইয়ের প্রভাব কোনো একটি নির্দিষ্ট পেশা বা শিল্পে সীমাবদ্ধ থাকবে না। বিক্রয় ও গ্রাহকসেবা, সফটওয়্যার ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং, আইন, চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞান, উৎপাদনসহ অসংখ্য খাতে এআই মানুষের প্রচলিত কাজের ধরন বদলে দিতে পারে।
সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হলো পরিবর্তনের গতি। অতীতে বড় প্রযুক্তিগত পরিবর্তন সমাজে ছড়িয়ে পড়তে কয়েক প্রজন্ম সময় পেয়েছে। কিন্তু এআইয়ের ক্ষেত্রে সেই পরিবর্তন মাত্র এক দশকের মধ্যেই বহু শিল্প ও পেশাকে আমূল বদলে দিতে পারে। ফলে এআই যুগের এই রূপান্তর মানব ইতিহাসের অন্যতম অস্থির সময় হয়ে উঠতে পারে।
বিশেষ করে প্রাথমিক ও মধ্যম পর্যায়ের চাকরি বেশি ঝুঁকিতে পড়তে পারে। নতুন কর্মসংস্থান তৈরি হলেও সেগুলোর জন্য প্রয়োজন হবে নতুন ধরনের দক্ষতা। যথাযথ নীতি ও প্রস্তুতি না থাকলে নতুন চাকরির সংখ্যা হারিয়ে যাওয়া চাকরির তুলনায় যথেষ্ট নাও হতে পারে।
এর সবচেয়ে বড় প্রভাব পড়তে পারে তরুণদের ওপর। ক্যারিয়ারের শুরুতে যে কাজগুলো থেকে একজন তরুণ অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করেন, দক্ষতা শেখেন এবং অভিজ্ঞ সহকর্মীদের কাছ থেকে হাতে-কলমে শিক্ষা নেন-সেসব কাজের একটি অংশ যদি এআই করে ফেলে, তাহলে নতুন প্রজন্মের জন্য কর্মজীবনে প্রবেশের প্রথম দরজাটিই সংকুচিত হয়ে যেতে পারে।
শুধু অফিসের কাজ নয়, শারীরিক কাজেও আসবে এআই
গেটস মনে করেন, এআইয়ের প্রভাব শুধু বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক বা কম্পিউটারনির্ভর কাজেই সীমাবদ্ধ থাকবে না। স্মার্ট রোবটের দ্রুত উন্নতির ফলে উৎপাদন, সেবা ও আতিথেয়তাসহ বিভিন্ন শারীরিক কাজেও মানুষের সঙ্গে যন্ত্রের প্রতিযোগিতা বাড়তে পারে।
অর্থাৎ ভবিষ্যতের প্রশ্ন শুধু “এআই কি মানুষের চাকরি নেবে?”-এতটুকু নয়। বড় প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে-এআই যখন কাজের পুরো কাঠামো বদলে দেবে, তখন মানুষ সেই নতুন বাস্তবতার জন্য কতটা প্রস্তুত থাকবে?
ডিপফেক, ভুল তথ্য ও সাইবার হুমকি আরও শক্তিশালী হতে পারে
গেটসের দ্বিতীয় বড় উদ্বেগ এআইয়ের অপব্যবহার।
জালিয়াতি, ডিপফেক, ভুল ও বিভ্রান্তিকর তথ্য এবং সাইবার আক্রমণের মতো বিদ্যমান ডিজিটাল হুমকিগুলো শক্তিশালী এআইয়ের কারণে আরও কার্যকর, দ্রুত এবং ভয়ংকর হয়ে উঠতে পারে।
এআই যত শক্তিশালী হবে, অসৎ ব্যক্তি বা গোষ্ঠীর হাতেও তত শক্তিশালী প্রযুক্তিগত হাতিয়ার পৌঁছে যাওয়ার ঝুঁকি থাকবে। শুধু ব্যক্তি বা অপরাধী গোষ্ঠী নয়-শক্তিশালী এআই ব্যবস্থা রাষ্ট্রীয় পর্যায়েও বিপজ্জনক বা অনৈতিকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হওয়ার আশঙ্কা রয়েছে।
ফলে এআইয়ের যুগে প্রযুক্তিগত সক্ষমতার পাশাপাশি নৈতিক ব্যবহার, তথ্য যাচাই, ডিজিটাল সচেতনতা এবং কার্যকর নিয়ন্ত্রণব্যবস্থা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠবে।
সমাধান এআইকে থামিয়ে দেওয়া নয়
তবে বিল গেটস এআইয়ের অগ্রগতি থামিয়ে দেওয়ার পক্ষে নন। তাঁর মতে, সঠিকভাবে ব্যবহার করা গেলে এই প্রযুক্তি মানবসভ্যতার জন্য বিশাল সুফল বয়ে আনতে পারে।
চিকিৎসকদের আরও কার্যকরভাবে রোগ নির্ণয় ও চিকিৎসায় সহায়তা করা, শিক্ষকদের সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি, মানুষের শেখার সুযোগ সম্প্রসারণ এবং সরকারি সেবাকে আরও কার্যকর ও সহজলভ্য করার মতো অসংখ্য ক্ষেত্রে এআই ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনতে পারে।
তাই প্রশ্নটি এআই থাকবে কি থাকবে না-সেটি নয়।
প্রকৃত প্রশ্ন হলো
আমরা এআইকে কীভাবে ব্যবহার করব, কীভাবে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করব এবং এর সুফল যেন মানুষের কল্যাণে পৌঁছায়-তা কীভাবে নিশ্চিত করব।
এখনই প্রয়োজন ভবিষ্যতের প্রস্তুতি
গেটসের মতে, সবচেয়ে খারাপ সম্ভাব্য পরিস্থিতিগুলো মোকাবিলার জন্য নীতিনির্ধারকদের এখন থেকেই সুনির্দিষ্ট পরিকল্পনা তৈরি করতে হবে।
কর্মসংস্থান, শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, করব্যবস্থা, জ্বালানি ও জাতীয় নিরাপত্তার মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্ষেত্রে সরকারগুলোর সমন্বিতভাবে কাজ করা প্রয়োজন। একই সঙ্গে অটোমেশনের কারণে যেসব কর্মী ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হবেন, তাঁদের নতুন দক্ষতা অর্জন, পুনর্বাসন ও আর্থিক সহায়তার ব্যবস্থাও তৈরি করতে হবে।
তিনি এমন কিছু কাজ ও দায়িত্ব মানুষের জন্য সংরক্ষিত রাখার ধারণাও সামনে এনেছেন-বিশেষ করে যেখানে সহানুভূতি, মানবিক বিচারবোধ, বিশ্বাস এবং মানুষের সঙ্গে মানুষের সরাসরি যোগাযোগ অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
পাশাপাশি অটোমেশনের ফলে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত কর্মীদের সহায়তার জন্য ভবিষ্যতে এআই ও রোবটনির্ভর অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড থেকে নতুন ধরনের কর বা তহবিল তৈরির সম্ভাবনাও আলোচনায় এনেছেন তিনি।
সামনে আসল চ্যালেঞ্জ প্রযুক্তি নয়-প্রস্তুতি
এআইয়ের অগ্রগতি থেমে থাকবে না। বরং আগামী কয়েক বছরে এর সক্ষমতা আরও দ্রুত বাড়বে।
তাই ভবিষ্যতের সবচেয়ে বড় প্রশ্ন হয়তো এআই কতটা শক্তিশালী হবে-সেটি নয়।
সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশ্ন হবে
এত দ্রুত পরিবর্তিত একটি পৃথিবীর জন্য মানুষ, সমাজ এবং রাষ্ট্র কতটা প্রস্তুত?
সঠিক নীতি, নতুন দক্ষতা, নৈতিক ব্যবহার, সচেতনতা এবং মানবিক মূল্যবোধকে সামনে রেখে এখন থেকেই প্রস্তুতি নিতে পারলে এআই হতে পারে মানুষের অগ্রগতির অন্যতম শক্তিশালী হাতিয়ার।
আর প্রস্তুতি ছাড়া একই প্রযুক্তিই তৈরি করতে পারে কর্মসংস্থান, তথ্যের বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা, নিরাপত্তা এবং সামাজিক স্থিতিশীলতার জন্য এক নতুন ধরনের সংকট।
এআইয়ের ভবিষ্যৎ শুধু প্রযুক্তি নির্ধারণ করবে না-আজ আমরা যে সিদ্ধান্তগুলো নিচ্ছি, সেগুলোই নির্ধারণ করবে এআই যুগে মানুষের ভবিষ্যৎ কেমন হবে।
